Planning Research Department is an sector of integrated research in our institute, it has now 8 peoples for research work ( of which 5 persons with senior professional titles), and the scope of professional research involves urban and rural development, population scale, eco-environment, environment economy, comprehensive communications as well as the construction of municipal infrastructure, etc.

The main work responsibility of the planning research department includes: undertakes or organize to conduct the planning research on related important tasks, participates in relevant planning research organized by other departments or units, and provide the basis for the planning and the relevant decision; accept the consignment to participate in conducting the preparation of planning and planning design; to collect and file the basic data of planning conducting, and proceed with the investigation and study of key and hot problems concerning city construction, and provide service for decision making; and complete other planning and research work designated by the institute leaders.

Since it's establishment at the beginning of 2002, the planning research office has participated in several important projects, such as Beijing city space development strategy study, the revision and preparation of overall planning master plan of Beijing city, and take charge to complete the important special study of revision and preparation of overall planning master plan, namely the Research on City Scale of Beijing Municipality, Planning & Research of Comprehensive Ecology of Beijing Municipality, and completed the Review and Evaluation of Overall Planning of Beijing City, The Impact of Olympic Games to Beijing City Layout and Construction of City Functional Area, The Report of Investigation on Land Use Development Condition for Population and City Construction in Past Decade Since the Overall Planning of Beijing City, the Analysis and Study on Ecology and Bearing Capacity of Beijing Population, Research on Ecological Problem of Water for Industry Use of the City, Research on Protection of Ancient Town Historic Style and Appearance and Traffic Policy, Strategy on Traffic Development of Beijing City, Basic Research on Traffic Rules of Bicycle and Pedestrian, and the Research on Related Problems Concerning Rational Utilization of Water Resource and Construction of Water Saving City in Beijing during the Period of 11^th Five Year Plan, etc, and all kinds of planning research. We have organized to translated and compiled the planning data, such as the Space Development Strategy of Great London, the Development Strategy of London Traffic. At present, they are participating in the planning of development zone of West-East regions in China, the planning of limited construction area in Beijing, the recent construction planning of Beijing city, the water-saving planning in Beijing city as well as the preparation work of planning for important new towns of Shunyi and Yizhuang, etc.
